The foundation carried out a profitable project named "GEOFINDER", through which a computer program "GEOFINDER" was created, unique in Georgia. The implementation of the project engaged mostly people with disabilities and their family members, which has enabled them to draw profits. The profits are also drawn by ALEX using them in achieving its basic goals.
The author and director of the project is Mr Giorgi Kachakhidze; participants
from ALEX - Avtandil Chavchanidze, Mamuka Mchedlishvili, Genadi Godunov and

The activities of the foundation have been supported by the United Nations
Volunteers (UNV) having granted funds for the project Disabled People without
Borders. The project was fulfilled on January 12, 2001, which enabled maintenance
of good relations with the AIS, Abkhaz rehabilitation center for the disabled.
The foundation, within the scope of this project, has supported organizations
of the refugees from Abkhazia with informational technology at its own office.

On July 9, 2000, the office of ALEX underwent an armed robbery.
Five armed people broke in the office and with a gun threat tied Giorgi
Giguashvili, a hemophiliac, who was looking after the property of the
foundation that evening.
The robbers took the whole equipment of the office: five computers,
TV and video sets. For two months the foundation had to cease its activities,
which were restored only from September.

On June 27, 2000, some representatives of Georgian
culture set up a cultural association named New Vision
guramnw@usa.net
with the lead of Mr Guram Odisharia.
The goals of the Association are popularization of the avant-garde in Georgian
culture, integration of Georgian cultural workers with the world cultural
processes, restoration of the severed cultural ties with Osetian and Abkhaz
as well as foreign counterparts. In spite of the few months of existence all
members of this organization have had long experience in the public diplomacy
activities aimed at settlement of Caucasian conflicts.The new association has
already received a support from the United Nations Volunteers as a grant of
US$ 1,500 for popularization of its activities.
The World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) implements its Twinning Program in Georgia, aimed at sharing experience of hemophilia organizations and hemophilia treatment centers of the developed world with their Georgian counterparts. The WFH has striven to set up a hemophilia treatment center in Tbilisi which will attend to people with hemophilia of the whole South Caucasus. After the World Congress of Hemophilia, In September of 2000 the Georgian Association of Hemophilia and Donorship (GAHD) was visited by Mrs Claudia Black, WFH Program Coordinator, and Mr Gordon Clarke, Chairmen of the European Haemophilia Consortium (EHC). They held a meeting with Amiran Gamqrelidze, Deputy Minister of Labor, Health and Social Security. The purpose of the meeting was deliberation of the WFH Program for Georgia with the budget of US$ 300,000.
In November, 2000, Teimuraz Golidjashvili, President of the Georgian
Association of Hemophilia and Donorship (GAHD), officially visited Erevan,
Armenia, with the mission of the WFH. He held a meeting with Mrs Tanya
Khachatryan, President of the Armenian Hemophilia Association, and Mr Armen
Yeremyantz, Director of the Hematology Insitute. The purpose of the visit was
research of the hemophilia treatment situation, ways of solution to the existed
problems, and establishment of contacts. For the similar purpose, in December T.
Golidjashvili visited Baku, Azerbaijan and held a meeting with Mrs Gulnara
Huseinova, President of Azerbaijani Hemophilia Association, and Prof. Efendiyev,
Head of Hematology Department, Republic Hospital, and the First Deputy Minister
of Health. It was followed by a meeting with hemophilia patients and journalists.

WFH TWINS OF THE YEAR
Two twinning partnerships share the 2000 WFH Twins-of-the-Year Award for
hemophilia organizations. Congratulations to HOT twins Argentina and Uruguay,
and Minnesota (U.S.A.) and the Republic of Georgia.
According to the resolution of Parliament on "Support for Non-Governmental Organizations of the Disabled and Additional Activities for Social Security of the Disabled", November 24, 2000 (based on the 2001 State Budget Law of Georgia), the program funding for the mentioned organizations shall be fulfilled by the Ministry for Labor, Health, and Social Security along with these organizations, basing on competitive projects. In addition, the resolution is not subject to amendments due to shortages the State Budget can face.
For the purpose of support and encouragement for these organizations the Georgian Parliament was commissioned to deliberate till April 20, 2001, the issue of the complex activities, provided by the resolution of the UN on "Protocol of Insurance of Equal Opportunities for the Disabled", the Georgian Law on "Social Security for the Disabled", and the Directive 182 of the President of Georgia, April 12, 2000.
According to this law the Ministry for Labor, Health and Social Security, the Ministry for Finances and the Center of Support for Development of Small Enterprises were commissioned to insure the allocation of one million lari during 2001 from the State Employment Fund for funding the activities intended for employment of people with disabilities, based on the program adopted with the consent of the Parliamentary Committee of Health and Social Security.
